Futile Wine

© 2007 mcm

One night we’ll see more planes than stars
And lose the wind to speeding cars
Drugs will bring us back to sane
And songs lose any new refrains

Go tighten all the tender wires
Holding up our frail desires
Bolster my more lacking fronts
And hinder any risky stunts

Peace flies from me in swiftest fashion
I look out from my foolish bastion
Deeper in myself I crawl
A progress now I cannot stall

For if I lose all sense of time
And drown myself in futile wine
Then kiss me deep and I’ll remember
That I’m alive, for you, forever
