I Tried
I tried to write a poem for you
But I couldn’t waste the ink
I tried to spare a thought for you
But I hadn’t time to think
I tried to show my thanks to you
But there’s nothing smaller than a penny
I tried to return your things to you
But you never gave me any
I tried to say something nice to you
But I couldn’t find the nerve
I tried to shed a tear for you
But that’s more than you deserve
