On feature we're undecided on is the breezeway at the top (it's a breezeway because the second floor goes over it, so it's sort of a tunnel). There's a beautiful oak grove just above the house, and it would be a nice way to connect to it, plus it would make the whole center feel more open and lighter. On the other hand, we would like a second guest bedroom, and since you have to build a roof and a foundation there anyway adding the room itself is relatively quite cheap. The other thing we spent a lot of time discussing is the layout of the kitchen. Katy has a theory, which makes lots of sense to me, that you want to minimize the lengths of the sides of the triangle whose vertices are the refrigerator, the sink, and the oven. Both these plans sucked at that. There is also always the question of how much pantry/storage space to put in versus counter space, and should we have an island? How about a nook? Here is an idea I came up with which adds an island and puts the "Iron Triangle"...
