Since taking this photo of the camouflage window screen with the equally camouflaged Sony 70-400 lens poking through it I have made a weather-proof window shutter with a dummy lens attached so that the birds will (hopefully) get used to it.
My next project is to build in a sturdy shelf and fix the tripod head directly to it as the tripod itself is not ideal. It is difficult to get it close to the window and the legs get in the way.

I have also fixed a couple of good perches in the shrubs and plants where the birds will (hopefully) land prior to stuffing themselves on my bird treats spread about liberally. The intention is to capture some shots with good backgrounds of out of focus plants and not ugly feeders.

DCPS closing 20 schools, including Spingarn
DCPS has plans for some of the buildings, such as expanding School Without Walls into the Francis-Stevens Education Campus, which is slated for closure. There are some preliminary ideas for some others, like a suggestion for a community arts center in what's now Garrison Elementary. For many, DCPS plans to work with the local community to identify the best use of the building, possibly including housing charter schools in the buildings.
Earlier this year, a report from IFF, a community development and consulting organization, recommended closing many schools with lower rates of student proficiency and moving kids to schools with higher proficiency. This report came under a lot of criticism for allegely oversimplifying and misreading the statistics.
