Having to walk back and forth from the garage or shed near the house to your garden is great exercise, but having a garden shed near your garden will be much more convenient and a garden shed can be an attractive edition to your yard.

Why You Need a Garden Shed

A garden shed serves a number of purposes, all of which allow you to keep your garden implements, tools and supplies near at hand. You can store your rake, hoe, shovels, forks, tillers, weeders – you name it, your garden tools can be stored easily in a garden shed. You can also store your organic fertilizers and other soil additives in your garden shed as well as spreaders and dusters for application. Finally, your power equipment will fit nicely in an appropriately sized garden shed. Use this space to store your lawn mower, lawn tractor, leaf blower, snow blower, whatever you have to protect them from the rain and snow.

Walking around Tim and Victoria Ivory's well-tended property, it is hard to imagine that five short years ago it was little more than a patch of dry dirt.

Even harder to envision is that their simple, neat board-and-batten home on Guernsey Rd near Renwick was formerly a leaky shed with barely a kitchen or bathroom to speak of.

Yet memories and photos easily bring back why their property was dubbed the "shed out west" and "the Rocky Horror Show" by Victoria as the couple spent many hours digging into the rocky ground to develop the site.

"A touch of humour in the face of adversity", says Victoria.

Now the letterbox at the top of their gravel driveway announces Rivorstone (spelled that way to incorporate Ivory).

Tim and Victoria were no strangers to developing and renovating properties, having completed five others before buying Rivorstone in 2006, but admit this was easily their biggest challenge.

Tim was working around the corner from the property when the couple saw it advertised as 23 acres of land and a three-bedroom home.
