Workshop sheds light on library's high, low points
CANTON - About 25 people attended a strategic planning workshop for the Port Hope Library system on Monday afternoon, Jan. 16 in Canton.
Led by Steve Langlois of Monteith-Brown planning consultants, participants were asked to respond to questions.
The event made such queries as "How do you use the library?", "What do you like about it?". Other categories for questions were about dislikes, trends, future vision and priorities.
Using the trademarks of focus groups and workshops, big pads of paper were on display and three audience members were called to write down what was suggested. Port Hope Deputy Mayor Jeff Gilmer manned one such pad.
Some of the likes about the library were the offering of WiFi, the quality of the collection, the social aspect at the Garden Hill branch, the quiet, friendly staff, accessibility in Port Hope, parking, air conditioning, talking books and more.
When it came to dislike many comments were focused on the Garden Hill branch. The equipment and furniture is out of date. There are no programs. Repairs are needed. The computers are out of date, there is no photocopier and WiFi is needed.
