A group that has been working for more than a year to set up a community garden in Corte Madera's Town Park has returned with a proposal for a new site to house the plots.
The Corte Madera Community Gardens steering committee approached the town in October 2010 with its plans to build a community garden on about 8,500 square feet next to the pond in Town Park.
The plan later hit some bumps, and the steering committee found prospective gardeners and volunteers uninterested in proposed alternative sites across from the former WinCup property on Tamal Vista Boulevard and near a trail on San Clemente Drive.
After meeting with Mayor Bob Ravasio to discuss the project, the steering committee this week presented a proposal to the Parks and Recreation Commission for a new site in Town Park behind the town-owned Park Madera Center shopping strip.
"Our main focus is that we'd like to be in the park because that's where the demand is," steering committee member Mary Warner said. "We had no interest in the Porter Cooley site or the San Clemente site to speak of at all. People in those areas have flat, sunny lots of their own so there's no real need."

REDLANDS: Scout builds garden storage shed for middle school "The kids all have to take their stuff across campus to work in the garden," Cook said. "They needed a place to store their tools." So Cook, with help from his father, Libbern Cook, worked out the plans for a tool shed and built the structure. |

Tidy up your tools But if you're like most people, and tossed into the corner of the garage or shed, then you're going to need a little more elbow grease to get them ready. Dirt-based bacteria and fungus can live on your garden tools even during the colder months. |

Pizza on Earth: Still outta this world The little shingled building, which used to be a tool shed, looks like a wee cottage with a cerulean blue door, with views of well kept flower beds and a small fenced in lawn home to a few scattered picnic tables. If I'm getting way too cutesy for you, |
