Running trail gazebo getting a facelift
AUSTIN (KXAN) - A rundown gazebo along the Lady Bird Lake running trail is on the list for a renovation.
The Austin Parks and Recreation Department will begin rehabilitating the Fannie Davis Gazebo the week of Jan. 2.
The gazebo is located on the hike and bike trail near the South First Street and Riverside Drive intersection. The parks department said the project should have minimal impact to trail users, aside from light construction traffic crossing the trail.
Construction signage will be posted.
The Fannie Davis Gazebo was built by the Women in Construction in 1970. Enhancements to the Auditorium Shores Trailhead area where the Fannie Davis Gazebo resides is currently being considered under the park's master plan.
The gazebo renovation project is an investigation, engineering and restoration of the existing wood-frame structure, including replacement of structural beams, a new roof, repainting and electrical/lighting improvements.
Completion of the construction phase is projected in March 2012.
