Cops hunt convicted killer Gregory Portacio in restaurant credit card scam
“The police need to find this man and put him away forever,” said Anastasia Amaxopoulos, 60, a homemaker from Bayside, Queens, who once shared a six-family Queens home with Minodora Papapanagiotou.
Papapanagiotou was killed by Portacio in a botched chain snatching during a summer night in 1980, when he and a getaway driver summoned her to their car window.
Portacio grabbed a gold chain around the neck of the 28-year-old mother of two, and the driver hit the gas. Papapanagiotou was dragged for 100 feet before the chain broke and the killers sped off.
“It devastated everyone who knew her. She left behind a 2-year-old daughter,” said Amaxopoulos. “That man should have stayed in jail for all of his life.”
Portacio served eight years in prison on a manslaughter conviction for the killing. The hulking convict was also busted on sodomy and weapons charges in 2000. His most recent stint in prison — for a parole violation ended in October 2010.
