Peoria man guilty in Flat Top Grill robbery; victims locked in cooler
A Peoria County jury took about seven hours Thursday before finding a Peorian guilty of participating in the June 2010 robbery of the Flat Top Grill, where several employees were forced at gunpoint into a walk-in cooler.
Daniel E. Moore, 31, of 1410 W. Widenham St. didn't react and sat calmly as Circuit Judge Steve Kouri read the guilty verdicts on counts of armed robbery and burglary that will mean he faces at least 21 years and possibly up to 45 years behind bars when sentenced in late January.
The state's case hinged on the testimony of two men who said they were with Moore on June, 27, 2010, when they went to the restaurant at The Shoppes at Grand Prairie.
Ronald Batton, 43, and Samuel F. Stewart, 31, both pleaded guilty to armed robbery in return for lesser sentences of 24 and 17 years respectively. Their deals, however, required them to testify at Moore's trial and likely at the trial of Terry Payton, 42, of 1200 NE Jefferson Ave., who is the fourth man charged in the heist.
