Oak Park home gets more than a suitable outdoor space
It is one of the downsides to living in a home of a certain age: something always needs repairing. While most of us despair and see dollar signs when a part of our home starts to deteriorate, Roger and Pamela Lupei saw an opportunity when their old deck began to fall apart.
The Lupeis have lived in their E.E. Roberts home on Scoville Avenue for over 20 years. While they loved the Prairie Style interior of their home and had created a lovely Japanese Garden in the backyard, something was keeping the setting from being picture perfect. The connection between home and garden was a standard-issue wooden deck that was not in great shape. When it reached the end of its lifespan, the Lupeis knew it was time for something different.
Situated on a double, corner lot, the home has a large side lawn, but the old deck provided a view straight out into the street. Roger says he knew that he wanted that view to change when they built a new deck.
"I knew I wanted something lower to the ground and some sort of privacy wall. I also felt like I saw everyone and they saw me, so I really wanted to gain some privacy with the new design."
