Designing your pergola is one the most important steps in the process and you must decide on the look you want. I may want a pergola with a pitched roof that is over a BBQ area or one that following the pitch of the house and extends the living area of your home. Other examples can be simple flat roof pergolas, or a pergola to cover your deck, curved pergolas, or a long pergola to block the hot sun during summer. The types and designs are nearly endless with each person wanting to make their pergola suite their needs. The point of designing your pergola is to decide on a pergola that meets your needs – size, the look, and the function.
Pergola materialsPergolas can be made of both timber and metal and the construction is very similar. However in this example I will just be talking about a timber pergola. Once you have your design and the exact measurements you can look up pergola span tables which will show you the types of timber and the size of the timber needed for your pergola. Span is simply how far a piece of timber spans or reaches from one point to another point. For example: if your pergola is 4 metres wide then you will use the span tables to find a timber size that can span 4 metres. For painted pergolas treated pine is very common choice through to high end pergolas that are stained or clear coated hardwood.

2016, Malioboro Jadi Kawasan Pedestrian
JOGJA— Realisasi Malioboro sebagai kawasan pedestrian akan dilakukan pada 2016 mendatang. Untuk itu, masyarakat diharapkan bisa mendukung rencana tersebut dengan mengubah perilaku di kawasan ramah bagi pejalan kaki tersebut.
Rencananya, di sepanjang Malioboro nantinya akan dibagi tiga kawasan. Masing-masing zona diperuntukkan sesuai dengan fungsinya. Meliputi, zona kendaraan tidak bermotor, zona pedestrian penuh dan zona perdagangan umum non permanen.
“Tahun ini, rancangan final penataan Malioboro sudah bisa diselesaikan bersama tim dari Pemerintah DIY. Revitalisasi Malioboro menjadi kawasan pedestrian membutuhkan perubahan cara pandang masyarakat,” kata Asisten Sekda Bidang Perekonomian dan Pembangunan Kota Jogja, Aman Yuriadijaya saat memaparkan penataan Malioboro di hadapan Gedung DPRD Jogja, Kamis (8/11/2012).
Sesuai perencanaan, hingga akhir tahun 2012 ini Pemerintah Kota (Pemkot) Jogja tidak melakukan pembangunan fisik di Malioboro. Pemkot, sambung Aman, hanya meneruskan penataan yang sudah dijalankan sebelumnya (dari ujung utara Malioboro hingga Jalan Dagen). Yakni membongkar taman-taman sebagai pembatas antara jalur lambat dengan jalur cepat serta menertibkan papan reklame melintang.
