DDD meeting celebrates new town square
The Downtown Development District has long rotated the site of its monthly meetings, convening in historic buildings, restaurants and corporate boardrooms as a way to highlight new businesses downtown and bring them into the fold.
On Tuesday, the DDD held its meeting outside on a sunny April day to mark the completion of the first phase of the North Boulevard Town Square, the $7 million public park designers hope will be the social and cultural heart of Baton Rouge.
Davis Rhorer, executive director of the DDD, said Tuesday’s agenda was deliberately kept light to put the focus on the environment around those gathered for the meeting. He said the meeting and ribbon cutting scheduled for later that day marked the end of a long process that required perseverance and cooperation but gave the city a signature outdoor communal space. He noted there was a Zumba exercise class on the lawn the evening before and yoga scheduled for later that day, and outdoor movies and concerts on tap in the months ahead.
