Summer is here but it's not too late to create an outdoor area that's perfect for warm weather entertaining. We ask the experts to share their top tips on the key ingredients for an inviting alfresco space.
FLOORING
Flooring is a major component of any outdoor area.
Matt Lihou, from Australian Outdoor Kitchens, said polished aggregate concrete, poured limestone and modular stone paving were among the most sought-after trends at present.
For a design-savvy look, he suggested combining a few different flooring types throughout the garden. "This helps to isolate different areas of the backyard and divide it up into different 'rooms'," he said.
Timber is a great way to soften more contemporary materials, according to landscape designer Craige Matthews, of CMD Landscaping, who recommended including some timber decking in the mix.
"Using a wider 140mm timber board can introduce that warmth that comes with timber and the lines of the decking make the space feel larger at the same time," he said.
